There are a number of ways in which measurement of APPs can be useful when assessing animal health including

• Assessment of the condition and health of animals
• Diagnosing illness and abnormalities
• Early detection of subclinical illness, specially useful in monitoring herd health to identify the presence of sub-clinical infection and provide a quantitative measure to monitor progress towards elimination of the problem.
• Aiding preventative health screening
• Monitoring the treatment and recovery of the animal as APP concentrations reflect the extent of the infection or disease and fall if therapy is successful.
