Professor David Eckersall - Chief Scientific OfficerProfessor David Eckersall is scientific founder of ReactivLab and is Professor of Veterinary Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow. David is a world-leading expert in the area of acute phase protein research, has published over 100 peer reviewed scientific papers in this area and has been responsible for many of the major advances in monitoring APP response in companion animals, cattle and pigs. David's work has shown the benefits of measuring APPs in a variety of conditions, including bovine mastitis and pneumonia, feline infectious peritonitis and canine leukaemia.
He has co-ordinated the European Concerted Action Group on acute proteins, been a past President of the International Society for Animal Clinical Biochemistry and is a member of the UK Association of Comparative Clinical Pathology and the European Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, which are main vehicles for dissemination of information to veterinary diagnostic laboratories. He is regularly invited to national & international conferences and presented at recent Congresses of the International Society for Animal Clinical Biochemistry, The European Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, the European Animal Acute Phase Protein Colloquia (Plenary Session) and the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (four Plenary Sessions).
David continues to lead research to advance the use of diagnostic methods in the evaluation of animal health by identification of new markers of disease, development of robust and simple methods of analysis and knowledge-based interpretation of analytical data.
David is also chairman of ReactivLab’s Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr Burrinder Grewal - Chief Executive OfficerBurrinder is a pharmacist and CEO of ReactivLab. Burrinder began his career working in hospital, community and industrial pharmacy in York and Oxford, before going on to complete a PhD in dermal biopharmaceutics and drug delivery at the Universities of Aston and Leiden, during which time he was awarded the James Watt Memorial Foundation Fellowship and the International Pharmacy Federation Prize Scholarship. He then went on to read for an MA in Economics at the University of Cambridge.
Latterly, Burrinder spent two and a half years working in the Corporate Strategy Group at Deloitte Consulting in London, as a Consultant focusing primarily on the global pharmaceutical, biotechnological and medical device business sectors. Prior to joining ReactivLab, Burrinder was an investment manager specialising in the commercialisation of life science-based businesses at IP group plc, (one of the principal shareholders in ReactivLab) and co-founding CEO of LUTO Research Limited, the patient information company. He is currently a Sainsbury Management Fellow (Life Sciences).
Scientific Advisory boardProfessor James Oswald JarrettProfessor Jarret has over 40 years research experience covering the fields of virology and immunology. His particular expertise and interest is in the area of feline retroviruses resulting from the discovery of feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) in the Glasgow Veterinary School. Subsequently, Professor Jarrett has conducted research in many aspects of FeLV, from epidemiology to molecular biology, and has contributed substantially to the understanding of the virus, the pathogenesis of its related diseases and the development of measures for control, including diagnosis and vaccination. Since 1987, Os has also carried out research on feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), using this feline virus as a model for developing vaccine strategies for human immunodeficiency virus, the cause of AIDS in man. As part of this work, Os set up a commercial diagnostic laboratory at Glasgow University dedicated to the analysis of naturally acquired infections in companion animals. His work to date has resulted in the publication of over 200 research papers.
Previously, Os has been a member of The Kennedy Committee on Quarantine for rabies, the Board of Directors of the Moredun Research Institute, and Chairman of the Veterinary Advisory Committee of the Horserace Betting Levy Board. Currently, Professor Jarrett combines his ReactivLab duties whilst remaining the Chairman of The Cat Group and Honorary President of the Feline Advisory Bureau.
Dr Mark JacksonMark is currently Deputy Associate Dean for Clinics, The Feline Advisory Bureau Hill's Lecturer in Feline Health and Welfare and Joint Clinical Service Leader in Internal Medicine at The School of Veterinary Medicine at Glasgow University.
Mark's research interests cover metabolic and endocrine disorders and in developing surrogate, non-invasive markers for both diagnosis of and monitoring response to therapy in inflammatory conditions in dogs and cats. In conjunction with Professor David Eckersall and Rory Bell he continues to evaluate the applicability of acute phase proteins in this context in small animal clinical practice.
Mark received his BSc DVM from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where after 2 years in general practice he returned to complete an Internal Medicine residency, a residency in Clinical Nutrition and a PhD in human clinical nutrition.
Previous to his current post in Glasgow, he taught Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Bristol and North Carolina State University. In the past he has served on the Scientific Advisory Board for Nestle Purina for 5 years.
Rory BellRory Bell is the Joint Clinical Service Leader in Internal Medicine at The School of Veterinary Medicine at Glasgow University. His clinical research interests include optimising the use of clinicopathological tests in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease conditions in companion animals and developing the utility of acute phase proteins in companion animal medicine.
Rory is a graduate of the Veterinary College of Ireland, University College Dublin and holds both Royal and European College Diplomas in Internal Medicine and is a European Veterinary Specialist in Internal Medicine.
